The design I did for the open assignment was an illustration of Egyptian Queen of the Nile Cleopatra. As we all know Cleopatra gives up her life using poisonous snakes when her love Marc Anthony dies. In my illustration I’ve depicted what Cleo would have felt like before taking her life. She appears smiling looking down while holding one of the snakes. I figured she would be happy because she believes that once she goes she will be reunited with Marc Anthony again. The actual illustration is drawn on multi-media paper with a black faber castell pen. I then took a photo and uploaded it to illustrator where it was coloured, textured and penned a bit here and there. The final look I was going for was a polished clean look that was recognizable.
fall hand lettering assignment: point was to depict fall in a hand lettered design. My design has to main themes flushed cheeks and apple cider which are written as well as drawn out in the design. Both words are imagined in the fall season which is why I chose them.
For this assignment we were asked to demonstrate the theme order vs chaos. The theme is based off of Australian artist, Gemma O'Brien. The assignment was a hand drawn interpretation of this theme. My illustration is drawn on a wooden board with white chalk. The background is black ink that has been sanded down with sand paper. The phrase "we're painting the town" is from the song down in new orleans. For the letters I was going for a mostly rounded shape with a musical show kinda of look. The dots in town we're supposed to look like lights. The swirls in the background are the chaos that also has a musical feel to it and is still orderly even as it swirls in through some of the letters.
Sketching and design of lettering. The point of these designs was to draw a word and associate it with music that was played. The first one my word was gravity and the music was all in one motion unchanging so I did not lift off the page. The second one was more straight and to the point but still delicate hence the word I chose.
